Keep Your Family Safe
Stop Gun Violence

About Keep Your Family Safe

Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon launched the second annual Keep Your Family Safe campaign aimed at reducing the high number of crimes involving gun violence in the Maryvale and South Phoenix communities. This grassroots effort is also dedicated to reducing gun deaths and injuries, both intentional and unintentional, and their impact on victims, their families and their communities

In a continuing effort to end gun violence in their neighborhoods, Maryvale and South Mountain residents are invited to participate in two community efforts on Saturday, June 13, 2009. These events will happen simultaneously in Maryvale and South Mountain. The “Steps to STOP Gun Violence” one-mile walks are walks led by members of the community and immediately following, the Phoenix Police Department will hold an anonymous, no-questions-asked gun buy-back program.

In addition to the these events, the program includes the Phoenix Police Department's neighborhood surveys to 500 Maryvale homes and the Poetry & Poster Contest in Bethune and Pueblo del Sol Schools. A billboard campaign and a continuous media push with bilingual TV, radio and print all promote the Silent Witness always-anonymous phone line (480-WITNESS).

The Keep Your Family Safe program is a coordinated effort between the city of Phoenix, Phoenix Police Department, Neighborhood Services Department, Silent Witness, John F. Long Foundation and Arizonans for Gun Safety to dramatically reduce the amount of gun violence in Maryvale and South Mountain neighborhoods.
